The PEAKS 2020 theme is:
Thresholds and Threshold Concepts
Call for Papers:
In a physical sense, a threshold is the bottom of a doorway that must be crossed to enter into a room. Kathleen Blake Yancey views threshold concepts as the “articulation of shared beliefs” that leads to the “modification, extension, and boundary marking” of spaces in social, professional, academic and other communities. Threshold concepts are entry points of knowledge that impact ideas and participants in discourse communities.
Thresholds create boundaries that contain certain ideas while excluding others. What are threshold concepts in different disciplines or fields? Who determines them? How are they negotiated? How gatekeepers of thresholds control the flow of information? How are threshold concepts revealed or hidden? How do threshold concepts create new conversations in previously unentered spaces? What happen to the spaces that are inhibited and then intruded on? What thresholds should be created, maintained, challenged, renegotiated, or dissolved? How do we negotiate the constraints of appropriateness in particular spaces? How can thresholds be circumvented for alternative entry?
We invite papers or creative presentations related to thresholds or threshold concepts in the broader context of society or academia.
